This piece was done for a Final Fantasy XIV themed “big bang” event. A “big bang” event is a collaborative fandom challenge where writers complete a piece of fanfiction for the event and are then paired with an artist who completes an accompanying illustration; all of the fan works are then revealed on the same day, creating a “big bang” of content within the fandom space.
For this event, I was paired with @Ralma_Crissen who wrote The Fox and the Hare, a folklore inspired story about G’raha Tia, a Final Fantasy character, and their original character R’alma.
After reading the story, I sketched out a couple of options for the piece, the first being a busier composition that references the reoccurring theme of the red fox chasing the black hare across the lake. The second composition was simpler and had a more dramatic feel emphasizing the “chasing” theme in the story. I sent both to Ralma_Crissen for feedback and if they had a preference on which to move forward with

The finished piece has two color variations, a more cohesive piece where the entire piece has a slight pink hue, and one where there is more contrast with a more blue background.
